On the day a century-old record was smashed for coldest day at 5F in Washington, D.C., I thought everyone would be bundled up and avoiding social interactions that could risk any heat loss. So imagine my surprise when I finally made it to U Street Music Hall, saw the nonexistent line outside, and then went downstairs to, hello, a well-filled room, which set the precedent for the hometown show of all three groups.

Shows to Know: Phantoms @ The 9:30 Club – 2/5

Thursday night: it’s not quite the weekend, but it’s close enough so it basically counts. You’re probably looking for something to do, besides your usual Netflix binge, but you have no idea what’s going on. Never fear, because Phantoms is playing the 9:30 Club with Viceroy and WRGW fave, Will Eastman.

Kyle and Vinnie make up Phantoms, an electronic duo with a knack for making dance tunes with a dark and brooding twist, which is apparent on all of their work, be it a remix or an original song. If you’re a fan of artists such as Disclosure, Hot Chip, or Com Truise, then this is where you want to be.
