Dillon Francis and Alison Wonderland to play at The Anthem, 2/22

BY TAYLOR GALGANO// I’ve been following Dillon Francis’s DJ career since I was about 15 years old. During my early high school years, Dillon was still an up-and-coming artist. That all changed in 2012 when he dropped two major singles that earned him some credibility in the EDM community: “IDGAFOS” and “Bootleg Fireworks”. I can still remember blasting both of these bangers on my iPod Touch. During this time, Dillon was noticed by famous DJ Diplo, and his career was on the rise.

Dillon is known for a certain type of electronic music called moombahton, which is a combination of house music and reggaeton. While Dillon didn’t invent this subgenre, he certainly mastered it in a way that earned him a strong cult-like fanbase in the EDM world (including me, a high school sophomore) early on in his career. In 2013, he went on his first tour called the Wet & Reckless Tour. Since then, Dillon has taken off as a popular electronic music DJ, releasing many hit singles, remixes and albums.

Aside from his music career, Dillon is also known for his quirky internet persona. He loves to connect with fans via social media and SoundCloud. One of my favorite things about Dillon is one of his many alter egos, DJ Hanzel. DJ Hanzel is a sunglass-wearing German DJ who encourages everyone to go “one deeper”. This character began on social media and eventually started headlining his own concerts. Although Hanzel doesn’t come out as much anymore, he still makes appearances in interviews, social media clips and concerts.

I have already seen Dillon in Philly and Los Angeles, but I’m just as ecstatic to watch him perform in D.C. on his most recent tour, Lost My Mind. He is DJing with Alison Wonderland, another popular electronic DJ, producer and singer from Australia. The two DJs will each play their own set and then do a set B2B (back to back). Dillon and Alison just released a song together also called “Lost My Mind”, and I can’t wait to see it performed live.

Catch Dillon Francis X Alison Wonderland at the Anthem on Friday, February 22 at the Anthem!
