PREVIEW Angel Olsen @ 9:30 Club, 12/14 & 12/15

BY ALAINA TAYLOR// Angel Olsen is returning to the district for two nights this week in support of her critically acclaimed 2016 album My WomanMy Woman is Olsen’s third album, following her 2014 album Burn Your Fire for No Witness and her 2012 album Half Way Home.
My Woman builds off the sound Olsen created on her two previous albums. While Olsen maintains some of the lo-fi sound she created before, she expands upon that sound, diversifying it by using artists such as Fleetwood Mac and genres such as glam rock and country pop as inspiration. The first single off the album, “Intern,” for example, is a foray into synthpop for Olsen, which is a departure from her comfort zone.
Since releasing My Woman, Olsen has also released Phases, a compilation album composed of a mix of B-sides, demos, and covers. Phases provides listeners with an intimate look into Olsen’s creative process; Olsen herself described the album as being like if “a diary was stolen and mass produced.”
Catch Angel Olsen perform at 9:30 Club at on Thursday, December 14th and Friday, December 15th. Doors open at 7 PM. Although Thursday is already sold out, tickets for Friday’s show are still available here!
