PREVIEW Ibeyi @ 9:30 Club 11/1

BY DAKOTA MORROW// On Wednesday November 1st, all the way from Paris France, Ibeyi will be playing at a DC music staple, the 9:30 Club.

Ibeyi is the brainchild of French-Cuban twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz. The twins sing interchangeably in English, Spanish, French, and a Nigerian language once spoken by slaves, brought to Cuba from Nigeria. Claiming King Krule, Frank Ocean, and James Blake as their musical inspiration, Ibeyi infuses a funky blend of R&B, soul, downtempo, electronic, and experimental sounds.

After the release of their album Ibeyi and the subsequent popularity of their hit song “River”, Ibeyi began touring. The duo has appeared in Beyonce’s music video for Lemonade, as well as at the Havana music festival.

Ibeyi is on a world tour following the release of their latest album, Ash, and will be joined by musical talent THEMIND, an experimental American Rap/R&B artist that describes his music as “a rabbit hole” of genres and electrofusion. Everyone everyone should go and jump on this chance to see talent like this coming through DC!
