PREVIEW: Crystal Castles @ 9:30 Club 9/30 Club

BY SARAH SOPHER & SYDNEY SPENCER // Crystal Castles is heading back to DC for the second time this year to show off their manic and mysterious electronic sounds. We can’t wait to head to the 9:30 Club on Saturday, September 30 to experience the upbeat, yet dark vibe of the Crystal Castles duo.

In August 2016, Crystal Castles released their fourth studio album, Amnesty (I). This is the duo’s first album featuring the band’s latest vocalist, Edith Frances. While many fans, ourselves included, were extraordinarily disappointed when the band’s iconic singer Alice Glass resigned, since then Crystal Castles has kept up their pioneering spirit. They’re creating sounds that continue to break boundaries and put listeners in a state of fascination and awe.

Their latest music slightly deviates from their original sounds as it brings a darker and more hostile environment. In an interview by Rolling Stone, Edith described the influences she had in mind while recording the album as “industrial” and “melodic” which she expressed through “lots of yelling and passion.” Edith also mentioned that the album was recorded in a haunted house, which explains the aura of suspense and fascinating allure.

Crystal Castles performances create a unique environment that can overthrow your sanity and force listeners into a trance. It’s almost like the music is grabbing at your insides and pulling your emotions right out of you. I urge those who enjoy spooky or passionate electronic sounds to experience this for yourself and visit the 9:30 Club this Saturday night. Tickets are available here and they are definitely worth it.
