Behind the project is actually a single artist, Ernest Greene. During some loss in direction after graduating from the University of Georgia, Greene began creating music in his bedroom. In 2011, Washed Out signed a record deal with the Seattle-based record label, Sub Pop, most famously known its contribution to catalyzing the 90s grunge movement and signing artists such as Nirvana.
