PREVIEW: Grouplove @ Echostage on November 9th

Just 7 short years ago, five friends came together to form one of the most influential and successful indie-pop bands of the 21st century: Grouplove.

The band, characterized by high energy set performances, dazzling light shows, and an impressive amount of hit songs, released their debut EP Never Trust a Happy Song, under Canvasback/Atlantic Records back in 2011. The album was an instant success, with its hit song, “Tongue Tied” hitting #1 at the US alternative charts at record speed, and being played on popular radio stations across the US and Europe.

5 years, 3 albums, and many tours later, the band is still shredding the indie-pop scene, and released its newest album, Big Mess, this past September. The 5-piece wonderband began their world tour this August, electrifying and uniting audiences across nations and borders. This coming Wednesday, Grouplove makes a stop at one of DC’s largest concert venues, Echostage, and through some miracle, tickets are still available.

DC is no stranger for the band, having played the 930 Club and Merriweather Post Pavillion in recent years. Echostage is bound to make for the best performance yet, and will certainly be able to handle the band’s driving force, wild energy, and dazzling light shows. Last time I saw the band perform, they did covers of The Who’s “Baba O’ Riley” and Beyoncé’s “Drunk in Love”, so expect some delightful curveballs at the show. If you want to rock your socks off, get sweaty, and hear some kickass music in DC on a Wednesday night, buy your tickets here.
