As is probably apparent through this column (or maybe not), I’ve a penchant for pop music, particularly of the unconventional variety. I literally just stumbled across this week’s Artist of the Week approximately 30 minutes ago, but I already know that I’m going to be a long time fan. Kero Kero Bonito combines everything I like in a good bop: maximalist and punchy pop beats, sickly sweet vocals, and bleeps and bloops that sound as if they were lifted directly from a 90s video game.

Kero Kero Bonito hails from London, but listen to any of their songs and you’ll think that you’ve found the latest J-Pop sensation. Seriously, what is going on in London these days? This vein of superpop calls to mind some of the music that PC Music is churning out these days, but with an international flair. Vocalist Sarah and fellow bandmates Gus and Jamie met on an online board and the rest is obviously history. I’ve managed to listen to a good amount of their Soundcloud while writing this, and it’s so hard to pick a favorite song, so I suggest you go ahead and do the same.
