Shows We’re Stoked For: Alex G, Elvis Depressedly, Teen Suicide + MORE @ All Saints Church – 7/19

Alex G

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of catching Philly native and bedroom pop extraordinaire Alex G in Brooklyn with a whole bunch of great bands, courtesy of a day long festival put on by Exploding in Sound Records and Impose Magazine. Playing near the end of the day, Alex burned through a 30 minute set with enough raw and visceral energy to impress America’s hippest and harshest critics, while still delivering his simple, thoughtful, blend of indie rock.

Alex and his live band may not have been the loudest band of the day, but (along with Pile) they were among the best. Playing tracks mostly from his recent release (**cough** Pitchfork approved **cough**) DSU, the transition from record to stage was seemingly seamless – the rather quiet, introspective songwriter thrashed at his guitar, delivering the necessary banter and exceptional harmonies to the sweaty crowd.

Fortunately for fans in the DMV area, Alex G will be headlining an absolutely killer bill in Frederick, MD this Saturday (7/19). Joined by Elvis Depressedly (you may know his other project Coma Cinema), Teen Suicide (back in action!), Wish List, and locals Makeshift Shelters, this show is a must for fans of lo-fi pop and seriously beautiful songwriting.

Presented by DZ Tapes, a DC based label/promoter/etc that has been putting some of the best shows together in recent months (Big Ups, Speedy Ortiz) the show was recently moved from CD Cellar in Arlington to the larger All Saints Church in Frederick, MD. While not as easy a metro ride, the trek will be well worth it.
