Shows We're Stoked For: Mittenfields At Black Cat February 25th

Mittenfields - STPPfest

With an energy derived from the days of garage rock, D.C based Mittenfields lends the 21st Century a look at what the seeds of 90’s indie scenes have grown. Founded in 2008 by Dave Mann and Sam Sherwood, the band released their debut EP, The Fresh Sum, in July 2011. The Fresh Sum is a stew of jangly, guitar-led noise rock interspersed with a math-rock foundation from drummer Brian Moran. Mann’s vocals add a passionate and brooding angst that centers the songs on a feeling of well-executed jam sessions. Listening to the band’s music, I found myself garnering a certain respect for them; their sound confidently affirms that they are not just another indie band.

Mittenfields spent much of 2012 touring the U.S before coming back to work on their first full length album, which has a release date fixed somewhere in the second half of 2014. A healthy lineup of shows bridges the gap between then and now, starting with a date at the Black Cat on February 25. What better way to pick up a Tuesday than a spin in the Backstage?
