A 2014 Message from the Music Director

Every semester, WRGW is growing and transforming to suit new goals. Every year, we book more interviews, in-studio performances and ticket giveaways. 2013 saw visits from the Blank Tapes, Pickwick and DC locals The Petticoat Tearoom; trips to the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, CMJ and Mad Decent Block party; dancing at U St Music Hall for Le1f and Kate Nash at the 9:30 Club and features on GWU artists like Typhoon and Soundtrack to Sleep. Not to mention, we conducted interviews with DC locals GEMS, Jimmy Shaw of Metric, Baz of The Fratellis and country legend Jim Ed Brown. And that’s just bits and pieces.

For the 2013-2014 year, we wanted to connect more with the DC community and expand outside of our station basement (beautiful as it may be). One of the steps we’re taking is to support the DIY scene here in The District. For college students, venues like The Dunes, Comet Ping-Pong and local house shows offer us the opportunity to keep up with the best in new music– on a budget. So, keep an eye out for those features. And of course, we will continue to do ticket giveaways, DJ campus events and host our open mic nights at Baked and Wired in Georgetown.

For now, catch us at The Dougout this Friday for Speedy Ortiz, Grass is Green, Two Inch Astronaut and Collapser. You won’t want to miss it; there will be something for punk fans, folk fans and anyone in between. Get the details here

TL;DR– Support local music and, of course, college radio.  We’ll see you on the airwaves. Always listen live at www.gwradio.com!
