Nothing brings people together like music. But nowadays, it’s hard to find a communal vibe in a concert hall. Too often—it’s sweaty bodies looking for other bodies to dance with and some crowds rarely care what is going on on-stage.

But Communion Records is trying to change that. They want to bring a homegrown feel to a music hall in your city. Communion was founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford & Sons), Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers), and Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den) in London in 2006. In the past, they’ve achieved a great deal of success and sold out shows by featuring artists like Gotye, Daughter, and Ben Howard.

And ready for the best news? They’re coming to DC. On October 2nd, they’ll be at Black Cat with Rubblebucket, Ghost Choir, Willy Mason, and Yacht Club DJS. They try to build upon a communal enjoyment of music—where people really care about the music and the artists really care about the audience.

Communion provides a launching pad for developing artists and even features local artists in the cities it visits. They’ve successfully toured the UK, Australia, and US and are coming back to the states for round two—stopping at nine local nightclubs along the way.

Check out the website and be sure to snag a pair of tickets. All of the artists on tour are incredibly and infectiously good. It is crazy to think this tour could be the start of one of their American careers. So go jam out at the Black Cat in a few weeks—we’ll see you there.
