WRGW is incredibly proud to announce that our very own Drew Bandos (aka DJ Banda Bear, my co-host on Sit Back and Dream, on Fridays 2-4 pm EST) has been signed to Mush Records for his project Is and Of The! Drew’s debut album, Heads Phased for Dreamless Sleep, was recorded in dorm rooms and basements in DC and Philly, along with the collaboration of friends. It spans an expansive range of genres, including elements of shoegaze, psychedelic, electronic and post-rock, but maintains a unified and beautiful ambient feel.

“Is And Of The is the project of Drew Bandos, a 20 year old experimental musician from Philadelphia currently studying in Washington, DC. Writing journal entries in the form of music, his songs constantly shift from one style to another, drawing influences from the likes of Slowdive, Do Make Say Think and Boards Of Canada. His tracks blend together fingerpicked acoustic melodies, delay-saturated guitars, instruments sampled beyond recognition into ambient soundscapes and a hybrid of programmed and acoustic drumming. The vocal presence ranges from wordless melodies drenched in reverb to spoken word ramblings. The recording process for Is And Of The combines seemingly diametrically opposed techniques. While Drew Bandos obsessively writes, records, and produces alone, he uses a sea of musical friends to add instrumentation in an unrehearsed barrage – often in a single-take. The end result is music with a beauty that seems both obsessed over, and organically created.”
The album release date is set for June 7th, 2011- and I couldn’t be more stoked!
